Ok, so I don't listen to country music. In fact, most country music makes me want to shove red hot pokers into my ears. It's schmaltzy, saccharine, and way too much "blue jeans, beer, 'Merica, and trucks" for my taste. Except for the Zac Brown Band. I like them....
Anyway...Off topic....
I was flipping through channels the other day on the radio and came across this song (apparently it's by Trace Adkins....I have no idea who that is, I find most of these guys interchangeable). It was called "You're Going to Miss This" and it was basically a bunch of set ups of people wanting to grow up....or wanting to "hurry through" something....and someone telling them to slow down, that they're going to "miss this and want it back".
And, because I'm pregnant and chock full of evil hormones....I bust out crying. Like ya do.
Crying over some sappy country song I would have otherwise flipped past with a gaggy-face.
Pregnancy man....emotions. Whoa.
I ain't gonna lie, it's tough around the house sometimes. Navigating self-employment for 8 years + starting a new business + selling that business + trying out a full time directorship this year + deciding "big fat nope" on that + 2 "strong-willed" kids + one on the way = big 'ole ball of Mom-Stress most days. And Dad-Stress too. Seriously. Both of us.
The patience river has not always run deep in this house. Most days it's run completely dry.
When Molly was born, she was a TOUGH KID. Colicky (like, real colic....not this "my kid cries sometimes colic")....a little sickly....half the time couldn't keep any food down. It was a ROUGH first year....and my husband and I just kept telling one another "It'll get better....she'll grow out of it....she'll get older and it'll improve". We worried because she was so small. We worried because she was "behind".
I feel like as a result, we missed most of her "babyhood". We just wanted it to be over and for her to be older because she struggled through it so much.
That Trace dude is right. I miss it....and sometimes I want it back. Even the tough parts. Because she's never going to be a baby ever again.
It's well established that Miss Betty is my "spirited" child. That's what they call 'em, right? The ones that have to argue EVER DAMN POINT until your head wants to explode? The ones who need to be told 5000 times to do something....and then they still only listen about 10% of the time. The ones who are too freakin' smart for their own good and illicit numerous phone calls from the school because she decided to tell an adult "what's what".
Yeah. That's my kid.
And she's ME. She's is SO. ME. This kid is going to rule the damn world someday if she can figure out how to tie her shoes and keep 'em tied.
We butt heads. A LOT. Because we are 2 peas in a pod. Betty will not let any perceived injustice slide. She is going to have her say. She's emotional....she's high strung. She's my kid.
I know some days her father and I are just BEAT. We've had it....and our lack of patience certainly gets the best of us.
But there are some days when we are playing songs on the stereo and she's dancing around like a goof and I know we are going to miss this.
All of it.
Even the parts where she is SO. NAUGHTY.
Because she will never be 8 years old ever again.
And someday, very soon, she's probably going to not want us to carry her up to bed....she's not going to want a story.....she's going to want us to go away and leave her alone.
I always knew life moved fast. I knew this after high school when suddenly 10 years had passed and I wondered what the hell had happened. In 10 short years my oldest will be off and on her own....my middle kid will be 15 and nearly driving.....my youngest will be 10 already.
I look around now and I realize our parents are becoming the "grandparents"......and I never realized my grandparents were "old" until they were gone. It snuck up on me.
I look around now and I realize I am staring down the barrel of 40. I'm half done already....nearly. It makes you hurt sometimes.
Soon it's going to be me and him in some rambling old house wondering why the kids never call us.
Life is TOUGH. PARENTING is freakin' tough. Every single day I'm convinced I'm screwing my kids up in an irreparable way and that I better start socking spare change away for therapy.
Now with #3 due in a matter of weeks I have to wonder if we are certifiably insane.
Because while parenting is tough....and you're constantly convinced you're doing it wrong....the #1 thing parenting is? It's heartbreaking. Really, the whole thing. Because it is SO. FAST.
I think that's why, deep down, I love what I do for a living. These small moments....these tiny glimmers of time when they are newborns....2 year olds.....5 year olds.....8 year olds.....Seniors in high school.....I get to freeze that. If only for a split second. So, people have something to look at 10 years down the road and say
"I miss that."
I need to work on being "present".....to BREATHE....and to maintain because they're only little for such a small amount of time.
Each day that passes, they lose a bit of that "little-ness". And it never comes back.
Guaranteed, I am going to miss this. I am going to want this all back someday.
So, my goal for the time being is to relax and try to enjoy it.....try to weather the tough parts and know that EVERYONE has tough parts.....that's parenting....and to know that my kids are going to be FINE. Better than fine, they're going to be awesome.
THE ONCOMING STORM
- So yup. Still pregnant. We'll just leave it at that.
- Had ourselves another growth scan/ultrasound. The Oncoming Storm is doing well...growing well...everything is good to go, so far. The time? DRAGGING....but yeah, I need to be patient.
- Pretty sure the nesting is starting to kick it. That or I've just become REALLY clutter adverse. I think we are going to quickly discover the lack of usable space in our house once this kid shows up. Only 2 more years until I can start house hunting for realsies (instead of my nightly Zillow dreaming sessions)! Can't come soon enough!
- RIP Nancy Reagan. Though, she had been ill for some time and it was probably for the best. Sad though, I kinda liked her and Ronnie as a couple.
- The weather round these parts has been pretty awesome, which makes me think of Spring...then Summer...then WORK. : ) Bring it on!
- Got the new Senior Mailers out yesterday. Focused a lot on Janesville/Milton folks this year, which is new for me. Untapped market and all that. With my studio move it was a necessity!
- Miss Molly has to have a very minor eyeball surgery at the end of the month. Kid has been a hot mess lately with pink eye and then this stye-thats-not-a-stye thing that won't go away.....I'll be glad when "Germ Season" is done.
- The STUDIO MOVE! Let's talk about that, shall we? Everything will be going down in June/July. I have to stay at my current space until the end of July and then I am FREEEEEEEE. : )
The new studio is AWESOME. Big and bright, huge windows, TONS of space....I will be able to accommodate large families that I couldn't before. And, you know, no construction issues to contend with, which is always good! I cannot WAIT to unveil the new space to you. It's going to be a good move! Stay tuned to the blog for unveiling pictures in a month or so and some "open house" info!
PHOTOGRAPHY STUFF:
- The HUGE Spring DOUBLE UP SALE is currently going on. This ends SATURDAY and I won't be bringing it back until next winter. Any gift certificate purchase automatically doubles, so you are saving 50% on things like sessions, prints and products, albums, seniors, lots of stuff.
Check out the info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1510268562615538/
- I'm also still holding the SPRING FLING MINI'S on the 19th and 20th. If you haven't reserved your date yet, shoot me a message!
- Maternity Leave will kick off APRIL 1st! Lord knows when this kid is going to decide to make her debut, so I'm going to play it safe. If you need pictures BEFORE April 1st, you need to get a hold of me ASAP. If you need pictures AFTER April, I would take advantage of the Double Up sale and then shoot me a message.
I'm still taking messages and scheduling....just going to be sitting with my tootsies up and watching a lot of bad TV in April. Already recording multiple episodes of Fixer Upper and My 600 Lb. Life. : )
- This week? We are still workin'! Kiddos are having an overnight with grandma so mom and dad get a break, three sessions on Saturday and an engagement session on Sunday.
Don't forget to SPRING FORWARD time-wise!
- Like I said, the weather has been AWESOME (by Wisconnie standards) so the kids actually got outside!
Feels like forever since I've done one of these! First FT on the new site! WOOT!
- Still pregnant. Yup. I mean, good thing since I'm only 31 weeks....she's still baking a bit....but I am SO OVER IT. OVER IT big time. There's a reason why they're all "you're advanced maternal age, blah blah blah"....because being pregnant at 30 and being pregnant at nearing 36 is a completely different ball game. And yes. I'm complaining. Because everything hurts and I'm crabby. : )
Plus I'm just anxious to meet her. : )
I keep remembering my poor Grams who had kids into her 40s and wrangled 8 of them in her little tiny house. I'm such a complainer.
- With the revelation this week that an island in Canada was offering a place to live to Americans if Trump wins the election, I started poking around immigration websites to check out exactly how wonderful Prince Edward Island really is....because it seems like Wonderland and Neverland and Heaven all rolled into one in my mind.
It's pretty darn wonderful sounding.....I made my husband swear we would make it a realistic retirement plan. : )
One thing I need to learn to do is stay the hell off of their real estate sites. OH MY GOD.
- I did watch the Grammys. I'm really not sure WHY I watched the Grammys, it always leaves me a bit disappointed in the state of the popular music industry. There were no big surprises.
- Watched the Oscars too. I really love the Oscars. I do. However, this year seemed a bit more "shove the political rhetoric down their throats" than years passed. Wish sometimes they would just get back to celebrating the movies.
- Making plans, plans, plans for BIG CHANGES coming on this summer. As I revealed before, I will be moving studios....and not a minute too soon either. As much as I've wanted to make my 150 year old building work over the past 3 years, it's been a rough ride (and you've been there through it all!).
The new space is HUGE, and CLEAN, and in WORKING ORDER....tons of natural light and white walls all over the place. Good stuff. I can't wait to reveal it to you guys!
- Senior Portrait Mailers should be in soon and I will be sending those babies out to BMHS Juniors, Milton HS juniors, and....well....anyone else I can think of!
(Turner High School Juniors, if you would like a mailer that comes with a discount offer, please shoot me an email at typeaimages@gmail.com with your address)
We start in-studio sessions THIS MONTH already! Can you believe it?!?!
My Senior "style" has really come into its own in the last 2-3 years and I feel like I've hit on the look I want to offer to area high schoolers. It's unlike anything else you are going to find around here, that's for SURE!
- Would like to thank EVERYONE who "liked" my little side project The Pudgy Gazelle. It's been a lot of fun talking personal finance and debt over on the site.
- Become overly obsessed with watching Fixer Upper lately. Not helping my house jones, at ALL.
But, I have developed an appreciation for shiplap.
- SPRING MINIS.
Yes, yes...I know....just wanted to throw another reminder out there that these are going down on March 19 and 20th and I will not be doing any more portrait sessions until mid-to-late May, so NOW is the time to get them in for Mother's Day gifts, Easter, etc.
It's perfect timing and at a discounted mini-session price of $150 you can't go wrong!
- I get another ultrasound this week (because I'm old and the baby is measuring big...which is BIZARRO WORLD because none of my kids have ever been what you would call tall, big, or anything close).
Last ultrasound I had I couldn't make out what was the baby and what was just smudges of stuff.
- WEDDINGS
I'm looking to fill some October/November/December 2016 dates and 2017 is wide open for bookings. If you're getting married in late fall this year or anytime next year, lets chat!
- This week? Mostly baby/kid related stuff....family session....more family sessions....headshots....and folks, in 2 weeks we SPRING FORWARD.....there is a light at the end of this long, cold winter tunnel. Promise!! Pretty soon we will be frolicking in fields and I'll be poppin' Claritin like a fiend. Ahhhh....summer! Bring it on!
